Silvia Barisione

La Curatrice DJ

I was appointed curator at The Wolfsonian–FIU in Miami Beach in 2011. Previously I was curator at the Wolfsoniana in Genoa. My research focuses primarily on 20th century design and prewar Italian architecture. In this field I have curated or co-curated numerous exhibitions and written several publications on the subject.

What do you do in your life (work and fun)?

When I am not working, I go to openings, exhibitions, movies, performances and concerts. I also dj from time to time. In Miami, I enjoy the beach life. Travel, generally is work related.

What made you leave Italy and chose Miami?

I accepted the job offer at The Wolfsonian in order to experience life in the United States.

Please share your best memory in the City.

Crossing the bay.

What made you choose this specific location and outfit?

Because I work at The Wolfsonian and I love its Mediterranean Revival architecture and, naturally, its interiors. The rain made me choose this outfit.

Your thought about this project, ITALIANY.US

I think it is interesting to try to redefine an Italian identity, if we still have one!

How would you describe being an ambassador of the italian style/culture abroad?

As an Italian I am confident that I have a strong cultural heritage that I enjoy sharing. And also I enjoy hearing and experiencing from other cultures.
