Antonio Monda

Il Meridionale

Antonio Monda teaches in the Film and Television Department at New York University. He is the director of several documentaries as well as the feature film Dicembre, which was presented at the Venice Film Festival, and has curated exhibitions for MoMA, Lincoln Center and the Guggenheim Museum. He is the Artistic Director of the literary festival Le Conversazioni. A columnist for Vogue and RAI, a regular contributor for the cultural pages of La Repubblica, the author of  La Magnifica Illusione, The Hidden God, Do you Believe?, Hanno preferito le tenebre, Lontano dai sogni, Il Paradiso dei lettori innamorati, the collection of photos and short stories Nella Città Nuda and the novels Assoluzione, L’America non esiste and La casa sulla roccia.  His work has been translated into eleven languages internationally.

What made you leave Italy and chose NYC?

I loved NY since I was I child, and it has not betrayed me.

What made you choose this specific location and outfit?

Central Park is the heart of the city. The subway its belly

Your thought about this project, ITALIANY.US

I am curious to see all of our faces together. We come from very different experiences, locations, cultures.

How would you describe being an ambassador of the italian style/culture abroad?

I don’t know if I am an ambassador. However I feel that promotion of our culture is certainly needed.
